Jalousie des tempêtes is a highly unfaithful reactivation. In collaboration with singer Jeanne Pâris, Emma Saba haunts the classical operatic repertoire with the ghosts of the present. In a transhistorical play of bodily and vocal ubiquity, they intermingle between an attempt at fusion and the disillusionment of belonging.
On stage, old arias metamorphose into electric fragments, bursts of laughter and amplified sighs. Classical music cracks open to let the scream through. Opera sheds its whiteness and becomes raw matter, desire, anger and tenderness. The heroines who are too loving, too mad, too loud—the ones sacrificed on stage so that they would be silenced—return to demand revenge. Jalousie des tempêtes is a performance-concert. It is at once a celebration, an uprising, a revolt and a reflection on the politics of voices.
