The more extensive the technical possibilities for mass surveillance become, the greater the potential for their misuse. Not only do we search the Internet, but the Internet searches us. Companies and states collect data, create personality profiles, and make predictions about our future actions. In THE CONVERSATION two performers follow the traces of modern surveillance technology. In the process, they reconstruct a forgotten conversation. Similar to the solution of a criminal case, fragments and traces of a crime scene are connected and put together to form a narrative. The process of their forensic evaluation takes on a life of its own and, in the chaos that ensues, poses the question: is the protection of privacy private or a challenge for collective political action?
