Suffering from locked-in syndrome, Ivy spent most of her life unable to communicate except through her eyelids and her eyes. She grew up in a body that didn’t allow her to put her thoughts into motion, as if she were enclosed in a shell. Today, thanks to MOTUM, a neural interface giving her access to a virtual body in a computer program, she is experimenting with a new way of being, beyond her physical constraints.

In a piece mixing performing arts and virtual reality (VR), the audience is invited to immerse itself in an extraordinary and dreamlike experience. Sitting in a circle, wearing a virtual reality headset and in the presence of Ivy, the audience will immerse itself in her inner world, a virtual space created entirely by her thoughts.

In a staging that mixes several layers of reality, we follow Ivy’s virtually reincarnated journey through the twists and turns of her digitized life. Brainwaves evokes and reflects on our relationship to identity, the construction of our memories, and the spiritual symbolism that animates us.
